Makeover your office: Work better, feel better
08/26/2008 - By Ariana Knittel Whether your office is new or just plain old news, you can decorate accordingly. Your office should be somewhere inviting, yet neat and professional at the same time.
Feed your creativity with smart office décor choices.
In a boring office or drab cubicle it is often advantageous to add a little of your personality and style to it. Staying a little practical and sufficient without seeming too boring or uninviting is a good way to go about it. The goal is to make your clients feel warm and welcome while talking business. The more relaxed you and your client are, the more likely you are to be successful.
When choosing your colors, you may want to consider ones that will reflect your business. You don’t want your office to be too dark or too bright and intimidating. If you are not allowed to paint, add color in other ways. Curtains, valances, chair cushions or even artwork can bring in enough color to make a difference. Also, staying tasteful with framed pictures and paintings is important, however, it doesn’t mean that they have to be bland or not in tune with your personality. These additions will add to the energy of the office and can even increase the quality of work.
Make use of windows and let natural sunlight in as much as possible. However, if there are few or no windows bring in as much natural looking light possible and try to avoid florescent lighting all together. Desk lamps, dimmer halogen lights, and any other light fixtures with low level bulbs are good examples of natural looking light.
Try using more cabinet and drawer space to put away items that are not used on a daily basis. This will alleviate extra clutter and polish up the room a bit. Also, shelves and bookcases can be used to save space, but avoid stuffing things in them if it is visible to others in the room.
Decorating with plants can create a lively environment. For those offices that make you feel trapped and out of touch with the outside world, plants can give the room more of an open and soothing feel to it. Even flowers on the desk or on a table in the room can create a real atmosphere for the office.
*By spicing up your office and taking a few of these helpful hints, your work may become more pleasant than it’s ever been before!
